Story
This was one of those days when I wanted lunch to feel like a celebration of home. I do not eat like this every day because this kind of Sri Lankan rice and curry takes real time, careful planning, and more money than a normal weekday meal. Today was a special occasion, so I made a full Sri Lankan lunch table the way I remember it, colourful, fragrant, and full of life.
The menu came together dish by dish. I cooked spicy prawn deval, traditional chicken curry with spices, cashew curry, Sri Lankan-style fish cutlets, tempered potato with onions and chilli, fresh salad, eggplant moju, and yellow rice with herbs. I finished the rice with roasted cashews and onions. What I love most in authentic Sri Lankan food is how spices and chillies build taste, aroma, and colour together. Nothing feels flat. Every plate adds a different note, and the whole table feels balanced.
It is not the healthiest meal, especially with the amount of rice and carbs on the table, but it is deeply satisfying in its own way. Meals like this are not for routine days. They are for days you want to remember, when the kitchen is warm, the table looks beautiful, and the whole house smells like a proper Sri Lankan lunch.
